The Duneland area, which encompasses Beverly Shores, Burns Harbor, Chesterton, Dune Acres and Porter in Porter County Indiana. Whether you are searching for a special place to relocate your family or business or looking for a great getaway, we invite you to come see who we are and why Duneland has an unsurpassed quality of life.

The Duneland area is at the crossroads of The Midwest. We are located at the southern shores of Lake Michigan, which is home to the Indiana Dunes, and we are less than one hour from Chicago. Also, getting around is very convenient with six major U.S. Highways, a commuter rail service, multiple marinas, an international port and one county, two regional and two international airports within close proximity.

Founded in 1836, Porter County has maintained its rich Midwest heritage throughout the years. Historic main streets, rich agricultural and the beauty of the natural environment have thrived as our communities have grown to over 150,000 residents. Since the 1990's we have grown nearly 16 percent, providing economic prosperity for locally owned businesses as well as welcoming national retailers to our marketplaces. Side by side, they thrive and offer something for everyone.

The eleven communities that make up Porter County are ensconced with the best in visual and performing arts, shopping, outdoor recreation, and world renowned festivals. Annually over three million visitors enjoy the ecological diversity of the Indiana Dunes, National Lakeshore and State Park's 500 acres of woodlands, beaches, fens and bogs. Valparaiso University, located on a 310 acre campus, draws students from more than 40 countries around the globe to pursue majors in more than 60 fields of study in five colleges.

To help maintain the area's natural beauty we have formed the the DEDC. The Duneland Economic Development Company is a 501(c)3 set up to work with all of the communities in the Duneland Area.  Economic Development is a vital component to any area, the Duneland Community is no different.  We are interested in smart growth and protecting our natural resources that make the south shore of Lake Michigan such an attractive place.  Helping to keep all of the communities interest in mind and finding funding for great projects is the mission of the DEDC.

The Chesterton/Duneland Economic Development Committee is a great way to be on the front line of development for our communities.  This group takes on tough projects that make a difference in attracting and retaining great business relationships.

Feel the charm of the Duneland area by shopping in the boutiques along main streets, attending one of our world class festivals or strolling through our flourishing European Market. A warm welcome is around every corner at our inns, our theaters and our businesses.
